On October 21, 2005, Cancun was struck by Hurricane Wilma, the most intense Atlantic storm on record. However, after little more than a year, the city of Cancun was back with a vengeance! While many of the damaged buildings were back in business, there were a few that were completely destroyed. In fact, more than one million visitors were forced to find new hotels after the storm. But what is the future of Cancun tourism? According to many, it has a bright future due to increased awareness of the city’s unique and beautiful culture. Cancun continues to be a favored destination for travelers from all over the world due to its unequalled level of service, luxury, and unique opportunities for experiencing world heritage properties and beaches.

Since Wilma struck Cancun in September 2005, much of the city’s historic architecture was damaged or demolished completely. In October of 2006, Cancun was hit by the strongest storm in history, Hurricane Wilma, with much of the downtown area submerged. Though many of the historic buildings have been repaired and are in relatively good condition, significant portions of the downtown area were washed away or destroyed completely. So for visitors interested in seeing Cancun before the Wilma devastation, they must now find a way to get by without Cancun as a vacation destination. Though there are many hotels in the area that cater to tourists, many charge much more than they are worth. There are also many businesses that do not have running water, electricity, or heat.

The most damaged buildings in Cancun were most likely the beaches, many of which were built right on the white sand beaches. The concrete sidewalks, towering palm trees, and the colorful fish tanks all contribute to the peaceful ambiance of the place. Many of the hotels have clean, fresh beaches but many of them are so tiny that they offer little to no protection from the elements. As such, it is recommended that travelers clean their own slate when planning to visit the tiny island. Cleanliness is not a consideration when choosing a hotel, or anyplace else for that matter. However, the services provided by the staff at the smaller hotels can be as good or as less than those of the larger hotels.

Despite the Quintana Roo island’s small size, it offers plenty of options when it comes to choosing a place to stay. Many visitors have found that the internet offers many more savings and convenience than ever before. People can instantly book rental cars, and use hotel email and message systems to communicate more effectively with each other. For the more high tech travelers, this means that they can book their own tickets and may even print them after making reservations months in advance.

The good news for the city of Cancun is that it is getting widely known across the globe as a place to go for travelers. According to Manyleistas.com, the island of Cancun was runner-up in a poll of the 10 best islands in the world. Visitors always seem to find themselves in the lens of the island with its miles of white sand beaches, clear blue waters, beautiful hotels designed and decorated by the best interior design studio,  and political stable. With laws that give tourists the right to remain completely silent and still enjoy the sun, the place is ideal for those who prefer to let their guard down.

When it comes to an island vacation, Cancun and the surrounding areas are best known for their beautiful beaches and natural groves. Groves are often the first stop for tourists looking to soak up the sun and sand all day. The island’s surrounding groves are often filled with fruit stands, orchards, and vegetable gardens.

In addition to the groves and beaches, there are plenty of other things to do. The island is surrounded by parks, shopping centers, restaurants, and many unique museums. Hotels and resorts in the area also offer many activities including scuba diving and snorkeling, tours, sailing, and much more.

The people of the island are known for their beautiful language. The main language spoken on the island is Spanish, but many other languages are spoken as well. English, the island’s official language is a common language taught in all schools.

The people of the island marvel at the tranquility of the place. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, you can experience an island that is both magical and unspoiled. The influence of the many entertainers and musicians ( Juanes, conversaciones, bandeira, and more) can be felt throughout the place.

When the DJ’s of the night shift, the mood can be anything from sultry and erotic, to festive and happy. The local pubs and bars host performers nearly all night, and it is important to note that the place has a feel all its own.
